Attic window cut through 400 mm heritage stone
A new attic window and lintel slot cut through 400 mm of heritage stone, with the interior protected from water and debris throughout.
A heritage stone gable needed a new attic window, plus a slot cut for the lintel that would carry the load over it. The wall is 400 mm thick, the stone is old, and there is no second attempt at a hole in a building like this.
We worked off scaffold on the gable end. A 400 mm wall is past what a wall saw reaches from one side, so a cut like this is worked from both faces and has to meet cleanly in the middle, or the opening reads crooked from inside for the rest of the building's life.
The other half of the job is the room behind the wall. Cutting stone makes water and debris, and the interior had to stay clean and dry, so the cutting was controlled the whole way and the inside was protected before we started.
It came out clean, and it is the kind of technical job we would rather be known for than another metre of driveway.
