Direct Concrete operator running a road saw inside temporary fencing on a Timaru commercial site, truck and telehandler behind
Timaru and South Canterbury

A local company shaping South Canterbury's infrastructure

We cut, core, scan and pump concrete for the builders, civil contractors and homeowners of South Canterbury. Electric saws, dust pulled at the blade, and someone on site when the job actually needs one.

  • SiteWise Green
  • Silica managed
  • Electric saws, no fumes indoors
  • 5am or 5pm

Tell us about the job

Name, number, where you are and what you have hit. That is enough to give you an answer.

Your crew is standing around and the saw's broken. Call. We turn up.

That is where most of our work comes from. Someone digs into concrete they were not expecting, six people stop, and the cost of waiting is a great deal more than the cost of the cut. Tell us where you are and what you have hit.

How we work

Compliance, quality, speed. In that order on a commercial site.

  1. Compliance

Dust extracted at the blade, health monitoring on the operator, and the paperwork in your hand before we start.

  2. Quality

Cut straight, cut once. If it is not right we come back and fix it, which is cheaper for everyone than arguing about it.

  3. Speed

The call usually comes when a crew is standing still. We answer it, and we turn up when we said we would.

Where the work has been

South Canterbury's big builds, from underneath

Most of the large projects in this region have needed something cut, cored or drained at some point, and a good share of that has been us. We cannot name all of them here, so here is what they were.

  • A $60M dairy processing development

Cutting and drilling for the principal contractor and three other subcontractors on the same site.

  • A $60M food factory in Geraldine

Slab and drainage work on one of the largest private builds in the district.

  • A new school in Twizel

Ten weeks of sawing two and a half hours from the yard, through an existing client.

  • Timaru's second largest construction site

Onboarded with the main contractor and cutting from this month.

A decent portion of our work is remedial, confidential or simply unsuitable for advertising. The jobs we can show you are on the projects page.

Who turns up

One phone number, and it is the owner's

If you can't go under it, over it or around it, ring us to go through it.

Direct Concrete is Matt Reweti and a truck full of electric high frequency saws. He started with one second hand saw and a job nobody else wanted to do, and the business has worked its way through a good share of South Canterbury's large builds since.

The rule has not changed since that first saw: do the small jobs and the big ones come. So we answer the phone, we say plainly whether we can be there, and we turn up when we said we would. It is not complicated. It is just rarer than it should be.

More about us

Where we work

Timaru out to the Mackenzie

Timaru is the base. Everything below is a normal week, not a special trip.

We also work across Canterbury, North Otago and the Mackenzie. If the job is worth the drive, we will drive it.

Before you call

What project managers ask us first

Are you SiteWise prequalified?

Yes. Direct Concrete holds a SiteWise Green rating, achieved in October 2024. Ask and we will send the prequalification pack and our health and safety documents through before we come to site.

How deep can you cut?

The road saw takes 340 mm in a single pass. Wall sawing reaches 220 mm from one side and 440 mm cutting from both. Core holes run 20 to 350 mm in diameter and typically to 400 mm deep, further with extension bits.

How fast can you be on site?

It depends what is already booked, and we will tell you straight away rather than string you along. Most of our calls come from a crew that has stopped, so we work around that: 5am or 5pm, whichever end of the day the job needs.

Do you travel outside Timaru?

Yes. Timaru is the base and we work across South Canterbury, Mid Canterbury, North Otago and the Mackenzie. Temuka is 15 minutes, Geraldine 35, Ashburton 75, Twizel about two and a half hours.

Standing around waiting on a cut?

Ring the number. Matt answers it, and if he is under a saw he will text you back. Tell us what you have hit and where you are, and we will tell you when we can be there.
