132 mm core to 1.35 m deep, same afternoon
A call for help at midday and a workable solution by 3pm: a 132 mm bit driven to 1350 mm with extension bits, on a site that could not wait.
The call came in at midday. It was a please help call, the kind where somebody is standing on a site with a problem and no way through it, and the day is already half gone.
We were there and had a workable solution by 3pm. The job meant sending a 132 mm core bit to a depth of 1350 mm, a metre and a third down, using extension bits on the barrel.
Normal core work runs to about 400 mm deep. Past that you are adding extensions, and every extension is another chance for the barrel to wander off line. Keeping a hole that deep true is the whole skill in it.
The site had not opened yet, so the one photo is the bit on the ground before we packed up.
What it looked like
Photographed on the job at the time, on a phone, in the state the site was actually in.

The 132 mm bit with its extensions, laid out on the ground before packing up. The only photo from the job.
The three things a job like this is judged on
-
Compliance
On a site that was not ours, at no notice, with the gear and the paperwork already sorted.
-
Quality
A 1350 mm hole at 132 mm diameter that stays on line the whole way down.
-
Speed
Called at 12pm, workable solution on the ground by 3pm.
Where this one fits
This job is core drilling work, and the service page has the depths, diameters and kit behind it. Timaru is on our normal run, so if you have something similar there we are not making a special trip.
